Snowman at the Beach

Advice for next time
The hard task is building the large heap of sand. Everytime you double the height of the pile it takes an order of magnitude more sand. (2 cubed is 8, which is very close to 10.)

A simple mold would be a big help. I think that one of these rattan beach mats would be ideal. Wrap it with some rope, and it defines a tapered column. It should take a lot less sand, a lot less time, and generate even better results.

Extenuating circumstances
Last winter I was dating a woman who lived in New Jersey. I spent Christmas with her, rather then staying in San Diego. So having a snowman kit meant a good excuse to play in the snow with my sweetie. Unfortunate, we only got a couple of inches of snow (on Christmas day!) and we broke up a couple of months later.
